About us

  • Who we are

Geradin Partners was founded by Damien Geradin, one of Europe’s leading competition lawyers and academics, with the mission of providing top-tier, independent competition law advice to clients. The firm opened its doors in Brussels in 2019 before expanding to London in 2021, Amsterdam, Paris, and Helsinki in 2024, and most recently, Cologne and Berlin in 2025.

We offer a distinctive service for businesses that value deep subject-matter expertise and strategic insight. We have a collegial culture that fosters ability over hierarchy, while all matters receive close partner attention. As an independent law firm, we are not attached to a corporate practice and therefore have wide latitude to act free of conflicts, often partnering with other firms.

In countries where we do not have an office, we work with a trusted network of top-tier partner firms, offering a ‘one-stop-shop’ to provide clients with a seamlessly integrated service. When partnering with other firms, we work collaboratively to deliver exceptional results for the client.

We are a proudly European firm that fiercely guards our independence from external pressure and strongly supports the rule of law as the foundation for a healthy democracy and robust economy.

  • Our capabilities

We advise on all aspects of competition law and digital regulation in Europe and the UK:

    • Competition and consumer law, including antitrust investigations, compliance, counselling, and strategic advice, as well as dawn raid support and assistance with market investigations.
    • Competition litigation before the EU courts and national courts, including litigation against public enforcement, collective actions, and private damages litigation.
    • Merger control, foreign direct investment screening, and foreign subsidies control (including multi-jurisdictional filing assessments and global coordination of filings).
    • Digital regulation (e.g., the EU’s AI Act, Data Act, Digital Markets Act, and Digital Services Act), including compliance, investigations, and litigation.
    • Sector-specific regulation across a wide range of industries (including automotive, manufacturing and mining, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications).
    • Regulatory investigations and related proceedings.
    • Public policy advisory work in our areas of expertise (e.g. digital markets, artificial intelligence).

We act both for complainants (e.g., in private enforcement actions against dominant platforms) and as defence counsel (e.g., representing companies in regulatory investigations). In merger-related work, we represent both acquirers, sellers/targets, remedy takers, and third-party interveners.

  • How we work

    Integrated

We are a specialist advisory and litigation firm focused on competition law, digital markets, and regulated industries. The firm operates as an integrated practice covering all aspects of competition law – from antitrust, merger control, State aid, foreign subsidies control, and sectoral investigations before regulatory authorities to complex litigation and appeals before national and EU courts.

We offer deep sectoral expertise in telecommunications, media, energy, transport, pharmaceuticals, financial services, and other regulated industries. We also advise on the interaction between competition law and adjacent areas such as data protection, intellectual property, and consumer law. Our capabilities in economics, data analysis, and public policy, enable us to offer clients integrated, evidence-based advice that connects legal, analytical, and strategic insight.

We work as one team, drawing talent from seven offices in six countries and bringing together expertise across multiple fields into one seamless offering for our clients’ benefit. As competition and regulatory issues are rarely confined to a single jurisdiction, we bring a single-firm approach to solving our clients’ most complex legal problems across Europe and the UK. We regularly partner with leading firms in jurisdictions in Europe and beyond in which we do not have an office.

    Flexible

We structure our teams to fit the needs of each matter. Our clients benefit from lean, focused teams that deliver efficient, agile advice without compromising on quality. Every mandate receives the direct involvement of our senior lawyers, ensuring experienced judgement and consistency at every stage.

We work seamlessly across offices and disciplines to achieve our clients’ objectives, whether leading complex cross-border matters or collaborating with international or national law firms that value our specialist expertise and jurisdiction-specific insight.

We offer flexibility not only in how we work, but also in how we structure our engagements. We are open to hourly billing, retainers, fixed fees, or other tailored arrangements designed to ensure transparency and predictability.

    Independent

As an independent specialist firm, we face few conflicts of interest. Free from the constraints and internal complexities of large international firms, we are able to act quickly, think independently, and approach each issue with a fresh perspective.

  • Our culture

We are an entrepreneurial, technology-first firm that values ability over hierarchy. We foster a friendly, collaborative and inclusive environment, and believe that diverse perspectives strengthen our thinking and our results.

We are highly responsive to our clients’ needs and approach every matter with creativity, strategic insight and rigorous attention to quality. Partner involvement is central to how we work, ensuring close collaboration and clear accountability.

Our culture combines intellectual rigour with agility. We encourage initiative, independent thinking and cross-office collaboration, enabling our teams to move quickly and deliver pragmatic solutions in complex and fast-evolving markets.

Above all, we strive to create an environment where talented people can grow, contribute and thrive while maintaining the independence and entrepreneurial spirit that define our firm.

  • Our experts

Our lawyers and advisers have exceptional experience across many of the leading competition cases and regulatory initiatives of recent years, acting for both complainants and defendants. We bring together experience gained in top international law firms, premier competition agencies, government departments, the courts, and academia, as well as from acting as in-house counsel.

For example, we have advised and represented clients in the following matters:

    • We helped Corning secure the closure (with no infringement finding and no fine) of an investigation by the European Commission for an alleged abuse of a dominant position.
    • We represented Salesforce as complainant in an investigation against Microsoft for the unlawful tying of Teams with its Office productivity suite, which led to extensive commitments imposed on Microsoft.
    • We represented the formal complainant in the European Commission’s abuse of dominance investigation against Google in the ad tech sector, which led to a decision fining Google EUR 2.95 billion.
    • We act on behalf of online publishers in a multi-billion GBP class action against Google in relation to its anti-competitive conduct in the ad tech sector.
    • We contributed to the UK Competition and Markets Authority’s seminal market studies into online platforms, digital advertising and mobile ecosystems.
    • We obtained damages awards for EUR 500m in German Google Shopping cases.
    • We acted in relation to Slovak Telekom’s appeal to the European Court of Justice against the European Commission’s abuse of dominance decision.
    • We defended the European Commission’s merger clearances for the EUR 65 bn E.ON/RWE asset swap in CJEU litigation led by multiple third-party interveners.
    • We advised Veolia in the UK Competition and Market Authority’s review of the company’s EUR 14 billion merger with Suez.
    • We acted for Fazer and the food industry in connection with proposed confectionery tax legislation subject to state aid scrutiny in Finland.
    • We are regularly asked to give expert evidence to UK parliamentary select committees on digital regulation, and frequently appear on television, radio and the media on these issues.
