Ruben Elkerbout, Mattijs Baneke and a team of associates will open Geradin Partners’ Amsterdam office on 1 January 2024.
Geradin Partners, a leading competition law firm with offices in Brussels and London is opening its Amsterdam office that will be led by Ruben Elkerbout and Mattijs Baneke.
Ruben Elkerbout is one of the leading competition law experts in the Netherlands. Ruben has extensive experience with antitrust investigations and merger control proceedings before various competition authorities. He is a trusted litigator on matters of EU law and private enforcement of competition law, including competition damages cases, and in the field of consumer law and complex regulatory issues involving sector-specific EU legislation.
Mattijs Baneke has more than a decade of experience in practicing competition law at leading law firms in the Netherlands, most recently Stek. Mattijs has a special focus on merger control, private enforcement and distribution models. In addition, Mattijs advises clients on the Dutch FDI screening rules and other regulatory matters.
Damien Geradin, the founder of Geradin Partners, said that, following the successful launch of the firm’s London office two-and-a-half years ago opening an Amsterdam office is the next logical step for the firm. “The Netherlands hosts many leading corporations in the industries that we target, and it is a major litigation centre for competition law claims. Ruben and Mattijs are perfect hires because they are not only great lawyers, but they also share our values and ambitions.”
Ruben Elkerbout, who will lead Geradin Partners’ Amsterdam office comments:
“I’m grateful to my colleagues at Stek for having offered me the chance to build a reputable competition law practice in the Netherlands, but joining Geradin Partners is a tremendous opportunity to further grow this practice in these exciting times and to offer Dutch and international clients access to a high-end competition law boutique that offers seamless cooperation with excellent lawyers in Brussels and London.”
Stijn Huijts, a Dutch partner currently based in Geradin Partners’ Brussels office and who will now share his time between Brussels and Amsterdam observes
“Amsterdam presents a major opportunity for our firm, given the strong reputation of the Dutch competition authority and the Dutch courts. Ruben and Mattijs are fantastic additions to our international team. We are excited to offer our clients top-notch services in the Netherlands, including before the ACM, in international competition disputes and, in the near future, cases involving the Digital Markets Act.”
Geradin Partners is about to launch a multi-billion-Euro ad tech action against Google in the Netherlands in collaboration with Stek, on behalf of more than 30 large and medium European media companies. Geradin Partners and Stek will continue to collaborate in competition litigation matters in the future.
