Catharina Schulte-Wintrop

Biography

Catharina is counsel at Geradin Partners. She advises clients on all aspects of German and EU competition law. Prior to joining Geradin Partners, she worked as an antitrust specialist at two international law firms in Hamburg and Düsseldorf. 

Catharina excels in cartel damages litigation, based on a decade of experience with private enforcement actions in the courts of Germany and the EU (i.a. auto parts, batteries, flour mills, German beer, trucks). She advises clients on effective litigation strategies, including claims bundling and litigation funding. 

Catharina’s practice also covers foreign direct investment control (FDI) and public procurement, with a focus on health care and pharmaceuticals. 

Experience

  • Advising Deutsche Bahn group in one of Europe’s largest follow-on damages actions against the members of the trucks cartel;
  • Representing clients in German antitrust litigation related to auto parts and foodstuffs;
  • Successfully defending the EU Commission’s clearances of the E.ON/Innogy and RWE/E.ON mergers in the European Court of Justice (C-464/23);
  • Advising a global health care leader on competition law aspects of a EUR 1.1 bn cross-border transaction;
  • Advising on competition compliance matters, including the implementation of compliance systems and leadng competition compliance workshops;
  • Advising clients from the technology and infrastructure sectors on German foreign investment control (FDI) and obtaining the necessary approvals, especially in the context of corporate transactions;
  • Advising (potential) bidders on all aspects of public procurement law and their participation in tender procedures, in particular in the health care and life sciences sectors.
