Joosua Virtanen

Biography

Joosua Virtanen brings a valuable combination of economic and technological expertise. Formally trained as an economist, Joosua specializes in public procurement and competition economics more broadly. Joosua has a unique ability to understand the big picture while being able to spot and analyze the small but very important technical details with large data and frontier empirical methods. Joosua also possesses exceptional skills in developing and applying AI tools – besides providing economic analysis and advice, he takes the lead on innovating the technological capabilities of Geradin Partners by building tailor-made AI solutions. 

Experience

Joosua has extensive academic experience. Joosua has several academic articles in review for publication and has previously published his work on firm growth in a top-tier academic journal. Among other contributions, Joosua’s forthcoming PhD dissertation proposes methods for detecting corruption and targeting policy interventions to attract more bids in public procurement. In addition, Joosua has contributed to multiple books, and assisted teaching of several Master’s level courses in economics. 

Joosua has been a Fulbright Scholar at UC Berkeley (2023-2024), where he accumulated frontier experience from both economics and AI.

Moreover, Joosua has previous experience working as an economist and a trainee at a top-tier law firm in Helsinki, and as a research intern at ETLA Economic Research.
